Plumbing our house, with no basement or crawlspace, has required careful advance planning and design. A significant portion of our drain, waste, and vent piping will actually be buried under our foundation slab, which means we have to plumb it before we know where the walls will be. In order to do that, we had to design the plumbing system for the entire house, because once the foundation is poured, we can't change anything underneath it. With assistance from an engineer and a plumbing designer at my office, I did the plumbing design with significant input from Jake who 3-D modeled the entire house (and plumbing piping) in Sketch-Up.

ReplyDeleteWell, just an update on how it's going: we just set the groundwork and laid the foundation with the plumbing installed. We're wanting to actually try using the Hydronics for a heating system in our house. It's taking a lot of planning, but we think it would be a good investment.

Hey there! We just implanted the Hydronics and they work great now! We did run into a plumbing problem the other day, but it was easily fixed due to better design. It's nice now to have heated floors from the system. We're still working on expanding the project to cover the upstairs, but so far it's going great!

Justifying a complex hydronic heating system in something like a Passivhaus would be a difficult proposition.
